Marion County Fire District No. 1 responded to a natural gas leak at 1004 Connecticut Ave SE today. Units were dispatched just after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon to a residential area where a construction crew had inadvertently broken a natural gas line.

The line had been broken just under the driveway of the residence. A total of six units arrived on scene and personnel worked quickly to evacuate residents and to notify Houck Middle School officials of the hazard. Multiple residential streets in the area were closed to traffic while crews stood by for NW Natural to locate and repair the broken line. The occupants were home at the time of the incident and were evacuated safely. Incident command was notified at 1:58 p.m. that the gas had been shut off at that location. Fire District personnel remained on scene until the area was cleared and safe for occupants to reenter. Personnel cleared the scene at 2:44 p.m. There were no injuries as a result of this incident
